Ingredients & Description

SAMe, short for S-adenosyl-methionine, is a coenzyme which is naturally synthesized in the body.  Discovered in 1952, SAME has been found to play essential rolls in three metabolic processes within the body including polyamine synthesis, methylation, and trans-sulfuration, Essentially, SAMe has been found to promote healthy cell growth, gene expression, nerve regeneration, and aid in molecular activation and synthesis.  It has also been found to help prevent neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia, and Alzheimer’s Disease, and combats depression, osteoarthritis, and certain liver disorders.

SAMe is necessary for the production of hormones, proteins (enzymes), nucleic acids, and neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin.  Recent clinical studies have shown SAMe to be effective in alleviating symptoms of depression, helping to maintain a stable mood and positive attitude.  A study completed in 2002 also found SAMe to help maintain joint function, reducing pain and upholding joint elasticity and integrity. Many other studies also suggest that healthy levels of SAMe can help prevent Alzheimer’s Disease, reducing oxidative stress on/in the brain and retaining cognitive function and ability.

For best results take one tablet two to three times daily in divided doses morning, midday, and late afternoon or as directed by your healthcare professional. In some cases doses exceeding 400 mg of SAMe have been found to cause dry mouth, restlessness and gastrointestinal problems. Slowly increasing dosage may help prevent these problems; taking SAMe with food may avoid gastrointestinal upsets. SAMe works well when combined with B12, B6 and Folic Acid.

SAMe is not recommended for people who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Question: why is it reccomended not to take if you have bipolar ??
