Several studies also show that an increase in macula pigmentation decreases the risk for eye diseases such as Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
Initial studies are also showing that Lutein, along with other members of the carotenoid family (beta-carotene for example) may protect skin against UV-A or UV-B oxidation stress.
