Ingredients & Description
Acai (Ah-Sa-E) is an Amazon Basin berry that:Acai Berry is a 100% natural berry, harvested from the rainforests of Brazil, by the people who have been using it for untold years. Acai has many nutrients we need to maintain good health. It contains Vitamins B-1, B-2, B-3, C, E, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, fiber protein, beneficial fatty acids, including Omega 6 and Omega 9. Various antioxidant compounds like anthocyanins are also found in Acai berry, some of which are 33 times more effective at quenching free radical reactions than the compounds in grapes used for making wine.
Research has demonstrated that Omega 6 - linoleic acid - may lower LDL cholesterol levels. Omega 9 - Oleic acid - may also lower LDL while maintaining HDL levels.
The Acai berry is a small, round, blackish purple berry which resembles a grape but is smaller and darker. It has a big seed and very little pulp. Acai is widely used in energy drinks, ice cream, energy bars with granola, and now, it is available in powdered extract, more concentrated and convenient to take in capsules.
Acai is very rich in anthocyanidins which gives it its distinct dark color, similar to wine grapes, leading to "French Paradox" analogies between this berry's protective effects when compared to the idea of red wine being protective and offering cardiovascular benefits. Cyanidin-3-glucoside, the predominant anthocyanin in Acai, has been measured in ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity) testing to be about 3.5 times more effective than a synthetic vitamin E analogue used as a calibration base for ORAC testing, and about the same when measured against a prominent anthocyanin in red wine. This places Aca in a category of being very high in antioxidant properties, like cherries, red grapes, raspberries, bilberries, and perhaps better than blueberries.
Acai Benefits
Greater energy/stamina
Improved digestion
Improved Mental Focus
Better sleep
Improved sexual function
High fiber content
Very low in sugars
Cleansing and Detoxifying
Boosts Immune System
Fatty acid profile similar to Olive oil
Just 2 capsules, one gram of Acai, can provide an ORAC value of 3871. An average person needs 1670 ORAC per day.
Anthocyanins:
These antioxidant compounds which protect the fruit from environmental challenges are powerful protectors of tissues when consumed. They have been shown to block tissue attacking enzymes and protect liver sterols from oxidizing. This is quite important since oxidized cholesterol and the lipid carriers, whether VLDL, or LDL, enter cells in different areas then healthy cholesterols. The metabolism of rancid cholesterol would set up chain reactions of free radical cascading, leading to cellular damage. Rancid fats in the cells are one of the greater insults. Anthocyanidins, like those in Acai berries, offer antioxidant blocking activities to maintain the health of tissues and rebuilding substances.
